Chinmaya Mission conducts the balavihar for the purpose of teaching India’s rich spiritual heritage and the fundamentals of Vedanta to the young generation.
In Balavihar, the rich cultural heritage of India, including its teachings on moral values, is taught to children and youth at different levels, using the medium of stories, drama, arts and crafts, and discussion. Children are also taught popular Bhajans and Slokas. Classes are organized by children's age, catering to a specific age group.

At each assembly, Balavihar children chose a Sanskrit word and present it in front of the Assembly. They learn its meaning and how it is used in a sloka or a conversation. This practical approach helps children learn the more common words of Sanskrit easily. Having children collaborate with family members for this exercise should make it fun and give them a chance to exhibit their learning and creativity. The experience of presenting to an audience is certainly priceless.
